Strong global wheat supply pressures the market
The wheat market this week fell to a five year low in Paris and a contract low in London, the main reasons lie in strong global supply and increased export competition. Increasingly, we’re seeing farmers sell further forward – and even start to sell next year’s harvest – in order to lock in prices early and manage their risk.
Feed Wheat
London feed wheat for November 2025 fell to £165.90 last night, down 2.1% from last week’s close of £169.50. This was compounded by a rise in the sterling to dollar exchange rate. The carry to May 2026 widened to £11.40.
On Hectare Trading, feed wheat received price offers up to £180 in the East Midlands for October 2025 movement, with an offer range of £5, and received price offers up to £179 in North East Scotland for November 2025 movement.
Milling Wheat
Paris milling wheat for September 2025 dropped to €182.25 (£158.07), down 4.8% from €191.50 (£166.09) last week’s closing price. The decline was driven by strong global supply and intense export competition. The carry to May 2026 narrowed to £16.48.
