Harvesting Success: Hectare Trading’s story begins
Monday 20th November 2023 marked a significant milestone for Hectare. On that day Graindex - the UK’s no. 1 grain marketplace enjoyed by thousands of arable farmers and crop buyers nationwide - received a supercharged update with brand new features and benefits, as well as a fresh, clear and in-brand name: Hectare Trading.
Graindex already had a strong following, but this upgrade brought us to the next level. Hectare Trading’s launch was one of the biggest ever days for our website, with listings posted within seconds of the upgrade going live and the very first trades following soon after. We found ourselves covered in the likes of Farmers Weekly and Agritrade News, and facilitated trades for some key industry names. Three weeks on and we’re continuing to assist grain trades across the country, while continually engaging with our customers to ensure our platform always meets their needs.
Here at Hectare, our customers are at the heart of everything we do. So we were thrilled to see so many of our active Graindex community migrate over to Hectare Trading so quickly, including many who had been with us since Graindex first launched in 2017. Even better, many of our customers found Hectare Trading more intuitive and user-friendly, validating our mission to make crop trading accessible and easier than ever before.

Just as thrilling was seeing so many new customers join the Hectare community, as well the return of several former Graindex customers. Nearly 20% of our sellers who have logged in to Hectare Trading so far had not used Graindex in the last year, indicating that our upgrades and enhancements are what our customers and the industry have been looking for. It was also promising to see many of our Inventory customers listing quickly and receiving generous bid spreads, showcasing how our products work best when used together - with Inventory providing an efficient real-time trade position which can then be used in Trading at the click of a button.
Hectare Trading’s rebrand came with several new tools, developed using the valuable feedback we’d gleaned from our Graindex members and designed to make grain trading smart, simple and effective. These included the ability to add different prices for different movement months, flexible tonnage options so farmers can sell more than listed and the option to ask buyers to re-open expired price offers - features all embraced by our community on the very first day.

The launch of Hectare Trading marked a significant moment in the Hectare story.
